Spanish-based Calvera Hydrogen has announced today (December 19) plans to develop eight hydrogen refuelling stations across Europe.

Expected to begin operating between 2023 and 2024, the stations will be accompanied by their associated hydrogen transport systems (tube trailers).

The refuelling stations will have different capacities, therefore adapting to the specific needs of each customer, from 200 to 1,600kg of hydrogen dispensed per day, translating to the filling of 20 to 30 cars and 40 to 60 buses per day.

Calvera Hydrogen aims to end 2022 with hydrogen refuelling stations and tube trailers in production, ready to be deployed to first level clients in Poland, France, UK and Spain.

Rafael Calvera, President of Calvera Hydrogen, said, “The commissioning of these new projects is an operational milestone for the company, both in the development of products adapted to the specific needs of each customer and in the positioning of the company at national and international level.”

Announced in 2020, the ‘Green Hydrogen Roadmap’ approved by the Spanish Government, outlined that between 100 and 150 refuelling stations should be available to the predicted 5,000 and 7,000 light and heavy hydrogen fuel cell vehicles by 2030.

In an effort to meet demands for the next decade, Calvera is scaling up hydrogen projects in Spain and Europe.

The roadmap aims to achieve climate neutrality and a 100% renewable electricity system by no later than 2050.

Earlier this year, Calvera announced that two hydrogen refuelling stations are set to be built in Poland, in the cities of Poznam and Katowice.

Set to be completed by 2023 and hydrogen supplied at 350bar for heavy-duty vehicles and 700 bar of clean fuel for light-duty vehicles, H2 View understands both will have a capacity for 1.6 tonnes of hydrogen each day.

The company is now working on obtaining the ISO 45001 certification on the ‘occupational health and safety management systems.’
