QatarEnergy and Qatargas have marked the 30,000th ship loading from terminals in Ras Laffan Port.
The LNG cargo was loaded on board the Qatargas-chartered Q-Max LNG carrier Mekaines, and the milestone marked by a ceremony at Ras Laffan Industrial City, attended by senior officials from both companies and Nakilat.
HE Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs, said QatarEnergy is keen to maintain the terminals’ position as a ‘premier export facility for clean energy’, as the developer of the world’s largest port facility for LNG, and other associated products such as LPG, GTL products, condensate, refinery products and sulfur.
He added that it is embarking on a major expansion of the North Field which will increase LNG capacity from the current 77 Mtpa to 126 Mtpa.
Qatargas Terminals at Ras Laffan, which started operations in 1996, have been expanded over time and now contain six LNG berths and seven for non-LNG products, as well as two offshore single point mooring buoys for loading condensate.
Last month Qatargas delivered a 205,000cbm shipment of LNG on a Q-Flex vessel to China’s Beihai LNG Terminal, the largest LNG carrier to call at the terminal.
